The AC® Goodeve VB story
Prairie farmers have been losing millions in revenue each year due to Orange Blossom Wheat Midge damage ($40 million in 2006). Producers have been asking for a solution and Dr. Ron DePauw and his team from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada have delivered.
They developed AC® Goodeve VB. This midge tolerant wheat variety is the result of moving a single gene (Sm1) into spring varieties using traditional plant breeding techniques.

Preserving Midge Tolerance
The Sm1 is the only known gene that provides wheat midge tolerance. It is vital to preserve this tolerance by limiting farm-saved seed to one generation past certified seed. Participating farmers are required to sign the Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Agreement.
